Growth rates will depend on season, watering and species used. As a guideline, germination will normally take up to 2 weeks, then first mowing after around 5 weeks. Generally in about 8 weeks the lawn should look similar to turf.

As with any project, the better the preparation, the better the results. Ideally, the ground should be free of weeds and grass. This may mean that the area should be sprayed with herbicide to kill any existing grass and weeds. The area should be cultivated to break up any heavy clods and allow water and air to get down into the soil profile. Depending on soil condition we often recommend the addition of organic compost or topsoil.

Finally, the area should be levelled to ensure final heights are appropriate, and so that water won’t pond in any low spots. A soil test can be very helpful and a good investment.
